Diary

And a little repost of the diary that got ate from the other day.

Pregnancy: Coming along fine. Early call by the doc is that we're having girls. Jenn's starting to feel the effects, getting in and out of chairs results in pressure and such. Both babies are measuring fine and there are no problems to speak of.

TV: All the hardware is in. 52" Sony LCD, Sony receiver, Bose speakers. Ordered a stand that will be in this Wednesday. If all goes well I should be able to get it setup and running this weekend.

You know, when you're standing in Best Buy or Ultimate Electronics looking at literally rows upon rows of 40"+ televisions, a 52" one doesn't really seem all that impressive, but once you get it in your house and see it 3/4 as long as your dining room table, it sort of hits home. I bought a huge fucking TV. I'll admit, I can't wait to get this all setup and get some XBox or Mario Kart going on it.

Gaming: Still playing a lot of WoW. Recently hit 70 with my third character, the Paladin. Interestingly enough, this one might finally get me into running instances a little bit; I'm alchemy with him and wanting to get cool stuff like Transmute Primal Water to Air and Alchemists Stone, which requires rep with Cenarion Ex and Sta'Tar respectively. Something I can't get enough of just from questing or repeatable quests. In addition I find myself not really wanting to go through the honor/mark grind in PVP to gear him up. I actually ran regular Underbog this weekend; simply attempting an instance of any kind is not something I've done since a failed 40 man of Molten Core back when this was still something of an accomplishment.

Picked up Mario Kart for the Wii the other day. Good game, exactly what one would expect. I found out that using the Classic Controller was far better (IMO at least) than trying to use the driving wheel, which sort of takes away a lot of the point of having it on the Wii, but still a good game for me and Jenn to have fun playing.

Weather: It's been raining for the third straight day here in the Heartland, which may not seem like a big deal to you all in London or Sao Paulo, but is front page news in Kansas. Which also adds to my lawn worries. I've been fighting the yard a bit this year, due to some lawn mower issues (is the blade sharp enough? Is it running OK? Are the gaps in the mulching plug the reason I'm getting a grass trail when I mow? Did I have the damn wheels set at different heights?) and the fact that after grass is so old it likes to "go to seed" around this time of the year if you don't stay completely on top of it. Which I've been lax in doing, due to said mower issues and unusually wet weather. As it stands right now I think I may have to have some custom cutters make a pass on their way through sometime in June. Google's weather thingy says that rain is done until at least Friday, with 80 degree temps by Thursday, so hopefully I'll be able to get the lawns done this week yet. Got a new set of blades and a new mulching plug on order that I should have by then. Still going to be a mess though; I know that back yard will still be sloppy, as water doesn't drain for crap out of there. Too bad, as it seemed to be holding up pretty well so far this year, even after a really wet winter, I kind of had hopes that was behind me.

Man what I wouldn't give to be able to email that paragraph to myself at 21, just to see the reply.

Custom cutters by marvin (2.00 / 0) #1 Tue May 27, 2008 at 02:56:34 PM EST
Glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read that, as it would have come out the nose.

Excess is best. Hire a custom cutter who has a combine with the GPS unit to track the harvest in different areas of your lawn. That will help you optimize your fertilizer applications in the future.

Huge TV by wiredog (2.00 / 0) #2 Tue May 27, 2008 at 03:00:04 PM EST
I measured some TV's at the store to figure out the average size, then put some mock-ups in the apartment to make sure I wasn't getting something too big.

The big TV's look even smaller in a warehouse by miker2 (2.00 / 0) #3 Tue May 27, 2008 at 05:45:15 PM EST
store setting.

The 42" LCD that we got looked tiny at Costco, but reasonably sized in our living room.  Makes me wonder how much upsell those places get simply because of their huge spaces.

"Big screen TV's? Yeah, they're on aisle 6, right next to the trampolines and hot tubs."
