Nothing much going on down Wichita way, kind of just trudging through this week to get it over and into Christmas. Jenn and I are headed out tonight after work to get the last of the Christmas shopping done.
- Fantasy Football: I fail it. finished around .500 in both my Yahoo fun leagues, and while I finished with the best record and made the playoffs in my pay league, I lost in the first round thanks to Tony "Hi Jessica, Hi" Romo and his 16 point performance. Between his game and Westbrook's kneeling at the 1 stunt, I'm convinced that the Dallas/Philly game last week probably turned the tide in more fantasy playoffs than any one game history. My dad, who's in the same league, almost lost his game thanks to Westbrook, but in the end he won by like 4 points and plays for the championship this week. If Romo bounces back this week I might still get 3rd place, which would be worth a little money ($20 maybe?), so we'll see.
- WoW: Still playing. Been kind of hopping around characters lately, faster leveling in the 30's and 40's means that I know have 3 alts in the 44-45 range, a druid at 36, and a shaman at 22. Also Alliance can't win a BG now to save their lives (at least in my group), so playing AV or any other BG is basically like eating aluminum foil. Jenn's managed to make herself an Auction House Tycoon; just taking advantage of under-priced stuff she's made something like 600g inside of a couple weeks, which considering she doesn't have a character in the 50's isn't too shaby. I don't think I saw 600g on any character at any one time until I was at least 68 or 69 on my mage and finally decided that maybe I should think about an epic mount. She wants to get a second monitor so she can play WoW while keeping Thottbot up to check prices, and damn if that doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Maybe have to price LCD's after the first of the year.
- Call of Duty 4: Win. The online play of this game has totally hooked me, which is odd because outside of TFC I've never really gotten into online FPS play. It's the "level-up" system of course, that whole lure of unlocking the next weapon or perk is a real siren's call. Don't get me wrong, I still totally suck (having more kills than deaths is a rarity), but I'm getting better, and golly is that P90 a fun gun (got rank 40 just the other day). "mvogts" is my tag if anyone here ever plays.
- Macbook: Soon to arrive. After probably the past two years of trying to convince the boss that these Mac things are getting more popular and maybe we should have one to better support them, she finally caved. I'm getting a Macbook Pro, 2.2Ghz, 2Gig ram, 160gig HD model. Should be interesting; I've never used a Mac for any length of time and for anything serious; Bootcamp is definitely getting installed. I'm eager to get my hands dirty with it, see how I function with it on a day-to-day basis.
- Chiefs: Teh Suck. Will they win another game this year? At this point I almost hope not. At one point I was OK with going with Croyle for the future, but now I'm not so sure. Lot of good looking QB's are going to be in the draft this year, and we're going to have a pretty good pick. I'm not even really disappointed that they're losing big, when you come right down to it, it's really no different than another 8-8 season. In the NFL it seems that you have to get worse before you get better; people talk about the Pat's dynasty and that's true, but even so they won like 14 games from like '90 to 94, and had an 8-8 and 5-11 season leading up to '00 when they started ripping off Superbowls.
- Hawks (Basketball): Teh Win, so far. Haven't seen many games but the ones I saw they look damn good, but we've seen this many times before. Sort of an underwhelming early season schedule, but the Big12 looks like it'll be pretty solid so that should hopefully be a decent gauge.
